Re: [AMIA-L] Mighty Wurltzer Organ Fox Theatre
Of course for anyone in the San Francisco Bay Area, there is a revived
"Mighty Wurlizer" being massaged live at the Stanford Theatre every weekend
in Palo Alto by some of the best organists around. Original compositions
and regenerations of movie music have been featured in the past (and
probably will be in the future) for silent showings such as a memorable
"Faust." Currently there is a complete Cary Grant retrospective featuring
original nitrate and some restorations. I believe this theatre is one of
only five(?) in the United States showing actual nitrate film. It's an
awesome 1925 movie palace redivivus. Except for earthquake retrofit and
renovation to meet regulations (and more modern, if discounted prices),
every experience is being at the "Grand Opening" with each movie.
